Logomania: Chen Hang Feng

Cool Hunting's video of Shanghai-based artist and designer, Chen Hang Feng, films him in the studio and the street, where he talks about his work, paper-cutting. He mixes and manipulates both traditional Chinese imagery with corporate logos such as McDonald's, Gucci, Adidas and Puma, in a way to modernize the craft and to comment on branding and the effects of globalization. Since he began his paper-cutting projects in 2006, he's branched out to working with film, video, temporary tattoos, carpets, textile, sculpture and installations.

The Last Supper (Fast Food) (2008)

Chen writes: "Almost 30 chickens in the Braziers International Artist Workshop (London, UK), they were suppose to be slaughtered the next day to feed the artists, I fed them the last supper with rice by drawing the head of Colonel Sanders on the ground... "

In this video, there are 16 hands behind Chen, holding various items purchased in a Luxembourg market, all made in China. The set-up is a reference to the Thousand-Arm Guanyin dance, performed by deaf dancers from The China Disabled People’s Performing Arts Troupe.
